Our 250th – Why America Still Inspires

Two hundred fifty years ago, a bold idea took root: that people could govern themselves, that individual rights came before government overbearance, and that freedom carried both opportunity and responsibility. That idea became the United States.

As we celebrate America’s 250th tomorrow, this is not simply a moment to look backward. It is an opportunity to reflect on what continues to make our country remarkable—and why, after all these years, America still inspires people and governments and countries all over the world.

We are fortunate to live in a nation where people can speak their minds, exchange ideas, and participate in shaping their communities. Freedom of speech is more than a constitutional principle. It reflects a belief that respectful debate, differing viewpoints, and open dialogue make us stronger. America has always moved forward not because we agree on everything, but because we are free to discuss, challenge, improve, and build together.

We are blessed with the freedom to worship openly and live according to our convictions. Across towns and cities throughout America, faith communities continue to bring people together, serve others, strengthen neighborhoods, and remind us that liberty includes respect for one another’s beliefs. It’s ok to pray to God and ask for mercy, forgiveness, and guidance.

America continues to inspire because it remains a place of possibility. Few ideas are more deeply woven into our national story than the belief that someone with determination, a good idea, and a willingness to work can create opportunity…not only for themselves, but for others. Family businesses, in particular, represent something uniquely American: a founder willing to take a chance, invest in an idea, and build something that can be passed on and strengthened by the next generation. These businesses create jobs, support neighborhoods, and demonstrate that success is often built one customer, one employee, and one day at a time. My Dad started KHT on a belief and passion, and passed that formula on to me, my extended family and staff – centered on problem solving and working together to serve our customers and their needs.

And perhaps most importantly, America inspires because of its people.

When challenges arise, neighbors step forward. Communities gather. Volunteers serve. Families support one another. In quiet ways every day, Americans demonstrate generosity, resilience, and a belief that we are stronger together than alone.

Like every nation, our history includes moments of great achievement and moments that challenge us to do better. Yet one of America’s greatest strengths has always been the willingness to continue striving to improve, to innovate, and to leave something better for the next generation.

Two hundred fifty years later, people still come here not because America promises an easy life, but because it promises the chance to build one.

That enduring promise is worth celebrating. Happy 250th, America.
